Went to try and book the tickets the other day, but the travel agent gave us quite a bit to think about. She said that for about another £200 we could do a round the world trip, which would be amazing but I'd need a lot more money for it, I'm more than happy just going to Australia right now.
She explained that we could book a return flight but leave from a different place that we flew into which is great because it means we won't have to make our way back down the country. Although because we're not certain of when we're coming back, it's not that much more just to buy two singles, so we can buy the return ticket nearer the time.
We're thinking of flying into Melbourne or Adelaide and then flying out from Cairns. It'll be such a great way to finish the trip, swimming in the Great Barrier Reef, just have to make sure we have enough money left for it all!

John Stewart
Just want ed post this link here quickly before I lose it.
Managed to find the images from a scene in Free Willy when they are looking through a book about the tale of Natsaclane - which I am going to illustrate for my narrative project. Took me SO long to find this

Visas etc
I want to start getting things like Visas sorted out and get flights booked pretty soon so that they're cheaper. We're going to get together tonight to decide where we want to go and start planning a route.
I'm looking at Visas at the moment which is getting a bit confusing as there is one called a 'working holiday visa' and another called a 'work and holiday visa'. Searched all over the Oz immigration website and found we need the WORKING holiday one, need to remember this. It's going to cost about £150 which isn't too bad, so next is sorting the most expensive bit - the flights.

Photoshop painting
Over Christmas I had a go at painting in Photoshop. I found a tutorial of a really realistic digital painting where the guy draws the main outlines over the original image on another layer. I wanted to try first with something Christmassy so I got this image to the left from a Google search. I'm really pleased with the outcome for a first attempt, I definitely want to try this again with another image, or to paint something from scratch.

Vladimir Konca's handmade typography
I've come across loads of handmade type as part of my research, but these ones have to be my favourite. They're by Vladimir Konca and they just look amazing. I love that they're so precise, and it looks really good where a lot of the chosen item has been used like the clovers below. Take a look at some more here.Friday, 7 January 2011
Hand drawn typography
Just been having a look at hand drawn typography and found a great post from Smashing Magazine. This is one of my favourites, I love the way it all links together and the tiny bits of colour. There are loads more really nice ones on this page.
